Facilities Zones

Facilities Zones have been designated to contain temporary and semi-permanent facilities within pre-defined areas and thereby control their distribution and footprint. There are eleven sites designated as Facilities Zones in the Area. The location, boundaries, maps, helicopter landing sites, infrastructure and identification of the maintaining party for each Facilities Zone can be viewed here:

Scientific Zones

The Scientific Zones have been designated to raise visitor awareness of specific sites of current and on-going scientific research. There are two sites designated as Scientific Zones. Site descriptions, guidelines for activities and maps showing the boundaries for each site can be viewed here:

Restricted Zones

The Restricted Zones have been designated at sites of high scientific value and which are particularly sensitive to human disturbance. There are eight sites designated as Restricted Zones. Access to Restricted Zones should be for compelling reasons that connot be served elsewhere eithin the Area. Don Juan Pond, South Fork, Wright Valley

Battleship Promontory, Alatna Valley, Convoy Range

Visitor Zone

The Visitor Zone has been designated to manage the activities of visitors, including program personnel, tourists or non-governmental expeditions, to reduce potential impacts to the environment. There is currently one site designated a Visitor Zone, located in the Taylor Valley near the Canada Glacier terminus.
